What is a
stroke?
There are many
people that have to deal with the problems of having a stroke at some point in
their life. This is not something that is going to be easy to get through but
it is possible. A stroke is a problem
that is going to affect blood vessels that supply blood to the brain.
A stroke will
usually happen when a blood vessel that brings oxygen and nutrients to the
brain bursts or is clogged by a blood clot or some other mass such as fatty deposits or furring. This is thought of as a rupture or a blockage
and part of the brain does not get the blood and oxygen that it needs. This is
a very dangerous and scary time for anyone to go through. This means not only
the people that have the stroke but also for the people that are around when
this ordeal is going on.
When there is
not enough oxygen the nerve cells in the affected area of the brain, which
causes them to not work, that the part of the body that they
control does work correctly. This is
a very hard problem to deal with, especially after a severe stroke has taken
place. There can be permanent damage to
the brain cells, which are not replaced. The brain cells do not regenerte like other body cells.
There are two
types of stroke. One is the Ischemic
stroke that is cause by a blockage of the blood vessels. The other is called a hemorrhagic stroke caused by
bleeding. Bleeding strokes have a much higher death rate that
caused by clots.
The Ischemic
stroke is the most common form. It is
going to occur when a blood clot forms and blocks the flow in an artery
bringing blood to part of the brain.
Blood clots usually form in the arteries of the brain. This is called a
cerebral thrombosis stroke. This is
going to usually happen first thing in the morning or at night.
A hemorrhagic
stroke is a hemorrhage that occurs when a blood vessel on the brains surface
ruptures and bleeds into the space between the brain and the skull. A cerebral hemorrhage will happen when a
defective artery in the brain breaks and this will fill the surrounding tissue
with blood.
When a blood
vessel in the brain bursts, pressure from the blood will compress part of the
brain. If the person does happen to live through this ordeal, the pressure will
eventually go away. Then the brain may
regain some of its former function again.
It is important to seek medical treatment as soon as possible when a
stroke occurs. This way a person can get the help and the treatment that they
need to recover and live through this devastating ordeal that can cause great
damage to a person's physical and mental well being.
